Mary Alice Reporting –

The recreational use of marijuana is now prohibited within City of Uhrichsville limits. Council also voted on a few other matters.

Among two separate ordinances up for vote, 12-24 prohibits the adult use of cannabis operations, include cultivators, processors, and dispensaries within city limits. The other, 13-24 emends the city’s codified ordinances to define and prohibit the cultivation, processing, and retail dispensing of cannabis for the purpose of adult recreational use in all zoning districts.

City Mayor Jim Zucal says with the vote, council made their point.

“They’re an effective council and they’re working well together, and it was unanimous from that body, and I don’t have to say anything this council has spoken loud and clear, they don’t want it in this community.”

Council also approved an ordinance regarding tree standards and care of trees located on city property, and other legislation dealing with an Ohio Department of Transportation project for US 250, at McCauley Drive.

Law Director Jeff Merklin has previously notified council of an expiring park levy and a resolution was also passed.

“The next step is to take the three original documents that we have in this process, two from council and one from the county auditor, and go to the Board of Elections.”

Elsewhere, Zucal notes that he wants to have a waterpark meeting as soon as the recreational activity closes for the season.

“I want to have special meetings to talk about maintenance, funding operations. The years I worked on council and it’s like spring rolls around in May and it’s like hey, let’s get the waterpark going. No, I want to start early. We need to really take a look at all this.”

Thanks to this summer’s warmer weather, he expects positive revenue numbers.
