Mary Alice Reporting –
Volunteers will ring the bells at red kettle locations throughout the holiday season to raise money for the Salvation Army.
The long standing tradition of placing red kettles at various businesses continues as the proceeds go toward community programs.
Lieutenants Andrew Behr says the campaign aids individuals during the Christmas time but it helps for the entire year.
“It helps us fund our soup kitchen throughout the whole year, we do some bill assistance, and we have a very robust afterschool program that helps to keep that running. Twenty or thirty kids come to us every day to get homework help and have a healthy environment.”
Behr emphasizes that the money collected stays in Tuscarawas County.
The red kettles will be up in local locations throughout December and volunteers to ring the bell are always needed. Individuals wanting to donate their time can contact the Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army at 330-364-3811.
