The Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army is calling on volunteers to sign-up to ring the bell at a Red Kettle stand this year.

The fundraising campaign begins November 23rd and Captain Andrew Behr says the more volunteers they have the less money they have to pay someone to be with a kettle.

“I think I counted over 1,000 volunteer hours that we can man in the five weeks of our campaign this year, so we need a lot of help. Minimum wage has gone up so it’s hard for us to pay a lot of people. We could really use the help of the community this year and that would go a long way.”

This can be a way to give back for individuals, but also for groups and companies.

“If you’re a business owner and got several employees and you want to take a day and man a kettle for a day. Fill in the hours with your people and you can take over a stand for a whole day. If you want people to know that your business is standing there, get a hold of us and we can provide a sign to hang up.”

The local Salvation Army still has a monetary goal of $100,000 to continue their services, like the hot soup kitchen, showers, and after school program.

Anyone willing to give a few hours of their time is asked to go to www.registertoring.com and sing-up up.
