Rev. James E. Reed, 85, of Newcomerstown, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at his home. He was born June 22, 1937, in Seattle, WA to the late Albert H. and Millie Ruth (Rowe) Reed.

He graduated from Central High School in Columbus. He received his ordination through Circleville Bible College/ Churches of Christ in Christian Union. Jim served eight years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He worked in the transportation industry for 48 years in management and sales. He was an ordained minister of five CCCU churches for over 58 years. Nearly 25 of those years have been in the Newcomerstown church.

Jim loved ministry and telling people about Jesus. Nursing homes were a huge part of his heart. He was also chaplain of the Newcomerstown Police Dept and served as chaplain for Newcomerstown wrestling.

Jim dearly loved his family. On January 25, 1992, Jim married his wife, Debbie (Bayes) Reed who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Keith (Sheila) Reed of Grove City, and Douglas (Lisa) Reed of South Bloomfield; his daughter who was the apple of his eye, Sheryl (Tracy) Dague of Galloway; his grandchildren, Brian (Nikki) Reed, Kristina Reed (fiancé, Jordan), Michael Reed (fiancée, Shyanne), Heather (Troy) Tilley, Doug Reed, Jason Reed (Mandy), Brett (Amber) Dague, and Alan (Kaitlyn) Dague; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Everett Reed, Riley and Bradyn Finneran, Charleigh Waddell, Trinity and Hope Langley-Reed, Dallas Reed, Bryson, Hudson, and Madison Dague; and his lifelong friend, Rev. Lee Tabor. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Douglas Reed; his brothers, William “Bill” (Lois) Reed and Al (Sandy) Reed.

Services for Jim will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 12 pm at CCCU of Newcomerstown with Pastor Steve Lattimer officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Visitation will be Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 3 to 8 pm at the church and also on Monday, one hour prior to the service. Military service will be conducted by Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard.
