Rev. Ronald “Gene” Whyde, 97 of Newcomerstown, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026 at the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House.
Ronald was born February 8, 1929, in Coshocton to the late George and Twila (Holdsworth) Whyde. Ronald graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1947 and went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1950. On March 3, 1951, Ronald married the love of his life Betty (Mathews) who preceded him in death on June 9, 2020. Ronald became an ordained minister in 1969 and went on to be the pastor of three churches in twenty-six years, including Cannon Hill Church of the Nazarene, Dover Church of the Nazarene, and Windham Church of the Nazarene. He held a number of offices in the churches over the years, and eventually he earned the Life Achievement Award from the Nazarene Church.
Gene is survived by his children Karl (Dora) Whyde, Russell (Vickie) Whyde, and Thomas (Sandy) Whyde; his daughter-in-law Ellen; his grandchildren Rebecca Whyde, Christopher Whyde, and Tommy Whyde, Jr.; his great-grandchildren Isaac, Hannah, and Lliam; his siblings, Barbara Storck, Patricia (Hube) Keylor, and George (Marcia) Whyde; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with his parents and his wife, Ronald was preceded in death by his son Ronald Whyde; and his siblings, June Hill, William (Evelyn) Whyde, and Donna (Gary) Colton.
A visitation will be held at the Addy Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Newcomerstown Church of the Nazarene, 363 Neighbor Street Newcomerstown, Ohio 43832. Ronald will be laid to rest beside Betty in West Lawn Cemetery.
