An over $700,000 grant will provide needed revitalization to Newcomerstown and the placement of a rail spur.

Village Mayor Pat Cadle explains that the grant is for two parts, with a separate one to redo sidewalks.

The initial phase will be painting the facades for downtown businesses on Main Street.

“To make it look brighter and cleaner and nicer. I’d say there’s probably twelve buildings and some of them have multiple shops in them. The nice thing too is our building owners have been working on making their buildings better too.”

The other part of the grant was for a rail spur replacement and the beginnings of their own depot. Cadle says this aligns with an agreement with the Dennison Railroad Depot to eventually have a passenger train between the two municipalities.

Following the repainting, Cadle adds that another grant, through the Ohio Department of Transportation, will reform the curbs in 2026.

“Tearing up the sidewalks to lay down new electrical lines, we have a new gas line coming in there, and the water laterals to the buildings will be changed as needed.”

He notes that work may cause brief inconveniences but will ultimately make a difference to Newcomerstown.
