Richard A. Basnett, 58, of Dennison was unexpectedly taken home to be with his Lord on May 7, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ruby Basnett, brother, Dennis Basnett, and sister, Cheryl Rose. Surviving are Rick’s wife of twenty-seven years, Jennifer (Finley) Basnett; his four children: Emilee, Eryn, Aimee, and Andy Basnett; sister, Terry Basnett; brother, Randy (Paula) Basnett; a brother-in-law, Bryan Rose; and many nieces and nephews.

Born on August 4, 1965, in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, Rick grew up in Sullivan, Ohio, and graduated from Black River High School in 1983. He then attended Hocking Technical College where he attained an associate degree in Recreational Wildlife with emphasis on Nature Interpretation. He later earned a bachelor’s degree at Massillon Baptist College in Divinity. He was currently working on certification to become an arborist.

Rick, also affectionately known as “Bas” in his camping circles, was a homebody who was outgoing, down to earth, genuine, and inspirational. His special gift was that he was truly able to talk to anybody and lift their spirits. He wore many hats in his life, including working as a park ranger, leading outdoor education, and working as a camp director. He loved to preach in churches, and was passionate in working with children in camps, Vacation Bible School programs, and Junior Church.

He was a man of many interests as well. He loved bird watching (especially warblers), wildflowers, cooking, square Dancing, science experiments, shooting guns, playing the ukulele, and singing with family. He loved history and was an avid fan of the Great British Baking Show. Rick was a man who was larger than life and will leave a large gap to fill. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1507 Oldtown Valley Rd SE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
