Richard A. “Dick” Dalpiaz, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, April 13, 2026, in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia, while under the care of Traditions Hospice, following a period of declining health.

Born in Flushing, Ohio on March 24, 1941, Dick was a son of the late Lewis Dalpiaz, Sarah E. Leonardi Dalpiaz Betche, and Forrest V. Betche.

He was a 1959 graduate of St. Joseph School at Dover and shortly after entered into the United States Army Reserve, serving from 1962 – 1968. He married the former Frances “Annie” Scolati on November 7, 1964. Together, the couple raised three sons and have celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Professionally, Dick worked as an agent for Western Southern Life Insurance and retired in 1996 after 30 years of service. In his retirement, he worked part-time for Cox Insurance until 2008.

A lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia, Dick previously served his church as Parish Council President. He was an active member of the youth baseball league for nearly three decades, serving as the local Commissioner and the East District Zone Director. From 1992 – 1996, Dick enjoyed providing transportation assistance to the New Philadelphia High School Marching Band. He was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Guardians, and Cleveland Browns.

In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by two sons, Brian Dalpiaz of Raleigh, North Carolina and Eric (Lisa) Dalpiaz of North Canton; grandchildren, Emery and Ethan Dalpiaz; a half-brother, Ken (Sherry) Betche of Dayton; a sister-in-law, Mary Leeper of Dover; brothers-in-law, Mike (Lori McCahill) of New Philadelphia and Joe Scolati of Baltimore, Maryland as well as his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, mother, and step-father, Dick was preceded in death by a son, Scott A. Dalpiaz; his mother and father-in-law, Joe and Margaret Scolati; a brother-in-law, Tom Leeper; and sisters-in-law, Betty Scolati and Jean Scolati.

A Mass of Christian Burial led by Father Jeff Coning will take place in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
