Richard Allan Patterson, 89, of Scio, Ohio passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Truman House in New Philadelphia, after a short illness. Born January 15, 1935, in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late William Martin and Linnie Lavina (Abbuhl) Patterson.

Dick was a lifelong area resident who had served his community as a firefighter for 31 years, including as the Chief of the Dennison Fire Department. Throughout his life, he loved spending time in nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His enjoyment of his favorite pastimes was only increased when he was able to share them with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in his retirement. He also spent many happy hours on woodworking projects.

On March 17, 1956, Dick married the former Dolores O. Barker who survives him at their home. He is also survived by their children, Jeffrey Patterson, Danial (Cindy) Patterson, and Margaret “Beth” (Bob) Starkey; grandchildren, Alan (Michele) Patterson, David Patterson, Richard C. (Brittany) Patterson, Amanda (R. J.) Hundley, Jennifer McGuire, Rebecca (Jamie) Stout, Joshua Patterson, Elizabeth (Daniel) Horner, and Christopher Patterson; and 21 great-grandchildren. His sisters, Theresa “Terri” (Melvin) Peters and Shirley Bonanno, complete his family along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald and Larry Patterson, and sisters, Darel Bryan, Sybil Warbargar, and Margaret “Peg” Lindsey.

Pastor Kory Rowland will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Thursday, August 1, in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. His family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service He will be interred in Conotton Cemetery in Conotton on a future date. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663, in lieu of flowers.
