Richard E. “Dick” Rimer, 75, of Dennison, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a brief illness. Born July 27, 1946, in Dover, he was a son of the late Robert Jacob and Jane Alice (Cummings) Rimer.
After his graduation from Dover High School in 1964, Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. During his employment as a regional sales manager for Joy Manufacturing, he lived in North Carolina and West Virginia. He returned to Tuscarawas County in 1984 where he worked as a district manager for Friendly’s Restaurants and later as a buyer for Tusco Grocers until his retirement. Dick was a member of the Uhrichsville Elks, the American Italian Club in Dennison, and the Dennison Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed coaching basketball for St. Mary’s for 8 years and was a faithful supporter of the WVU Mountaineers sports teams.
On June 17, 1973, Dick married Virginia “Ginny Kay” (Ross) Rimer with whom he enjoyed 41 years of loving marriage until her passing on November 25, 2014. They are survived by three sons, Scott Rimer, Thadd (Prue) Rimer, and Aaron Rimer, and three grandsons, Logan, Jack, and Finnley Rimer. Dick is also survived by his brothers, David (Patty) Rimer and Billy (Cathy) Rimer; sister-in-law, Josephine Benedetto; many nieces and nephews; dear friends, Kenny and Goldie Host and Diane Mainella; and his canine companions, Fletcher and Dexter. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Diane Rimer; parents-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ross; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Bobbi Ann Rimer, William Benedetto Sr., and Carmella and David Creager.
Father Jeff Coning will celebrate the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and the Rimer Family Scholarship Fund at Central Catholic High School.
