Richard F. Herman, 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a long period of declining health. Born November 3, 1937 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the last surviving child of the late James Patrick and Marcella Agnes (Ludwig) Herman, having been preceded in death by his brothers, James and Joseph Herman.

Richard was a 1955 graduate of Weirton High School before moving to Tuscarawas County where he has resided since the age of 18. Most recently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia, he had previously been a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Richard was employed as an inspector at Gradall (formerly Warner-Swasey) for many years until his retirement.

On June 25, 1960, Richard married the former Donna Jean Gold who survives him along with their children, Tally Matthews, Kelly (Bob) Barker, and James (Audrey) Herman; grandchildren, Natasha McGraw, Joey Matthews, and David (Hali) Herman; and great-grandchildren, Alea, Stella, Asher, and Teagon; and nieces and nephews.

Father Jeff Coning will celebrate the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison where his family will receive callers for the hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions honoring Richard’s memory may be made to Immaculate Conception Church.
