Richard G. Mackey, 81, of New Philadelphia, Ohio died Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Akron City Hospital following a brief illness.

Richard owned and operated the former R&R Masonry in New Philadelphia with his son, Rick. He previously worked for Benchmark and Gundy Construction Companies in New Philadelphia.

Born April 9, 1941, in Dover, he was the son of the late Harry and Adeline (Gwin) Mackey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Sue Mackey and three brothers, Karl, Bruce, and Ted Mackey.

He was a member of the Dennison Eagles. He enjoyed sitting by the fire, watching professional golf, riding his bicycle, and loved woodworking. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of nearly 59 years, Caroline (Stearns) Mackey. They were married on October 25, 1963; three sons, Rick (Sherry) Mackey of Midvale, Michael (Cindy) Mackey of Michigan, and Kevin (Nicole Conway) Mackey of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren including Travas (Chelsea) Mackey, McKenzie (Eric Rowland) Mackey, and Madison Mackey, whom he had very special relationships with; and Deanna Mackey; four great-grandchildren, Haddie, Dawsyn, and Coleman Mackey and Journey Rowland; one brother, Thomas (Alva) Mackey of Uhrichsville and his K-9 companion, Earl, who he enjoyed spending his days with; along with a great-grand pup, Nelli.
