Richard J. “Dick” Calderon, age 94, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 24, 2023, in Community Hospice – Truman House at New Philadelphia following a brief illness. 

Born May 23, 1928 in Dennison, he was the son of the late Bert and Laboria (Marfisi) Calderon and was a 1946 gradate of the former St. Mary’s High School at Dennison. Dick was an honorably discharged veteran having served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, Dick became a licensed insurance agent and was a former partner in the Romig Insurance Agency at Uhrichsville. He continued his education by attending Kent State University and many additional insurance-based classes throughout his career and eventually retiring in 1987. Following his retirement, Dick began his second career working at the Super Gems Car Wash at New Philadelphia and eventually retired a second time in May 2022.

On October 25, 1952, Dick married Grace Ann (Everett) Calderon and together they raised four children and had celebrated over 61 years of marriage before her passing in June 2014. Surviving is a son, Richard L. (Lisa) Calderon; three daughters, Susanne (Darrel) Ciereszewski, Holly (John) Schmidt, all of New Philadelphia, and Kelly Pagni of Cuyahoga Falls; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Adam (Rachel), Michael (Amy), Christopher (Lacey), Sarah, Megan (Austin), Nicholas (Corrine), Jordan, Leslie, and Logan (Becca), and 11 great-grandchildren, Mayson, Chandler, Sarah Grace, Maddox, Sable, Dekin, Emery, Diamond, Ella, Warrick and Kade.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Polen.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2023, from 10-11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Memorial Service Celebrating Dick’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel at 11AM with both his God-Son, Jim Aiello, and Father Jeff Coning officiating. Inurnment in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia will be held at a later date where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors.
