Richard L. Harman, 79, of Dover, died June 12, 2023, in Cleveland Clinic at Cleveland following complications from a recent stroke.

The only child of the late Dr. Frank K. and Dorothy Mae (Pritchard) Harman, Rich was born December 4, 1943, in Dover.

Rich attended both The Ohio State University and the University of Buffalo where he earned his Doctorate in Law.

Throughout his lifetime, Rich wore many “career hats.” He served his country during the Vietnam War and also served the country’s veterans in the Veterans Administration. He was a gifted musician, playing percussion in several professional groups including the Continentals. His law career spanned more than 40 years. While residing in Eden, NY, he served as the Town Prosecutor, an officer on the Eden Police Force, was on the Eden Emergency Squad, taught at the Buffalo Police Academy and presided as the Eden Town Justice for 11 years.

His lifelong passion was motorcycling, and for the past 12 years, he pursued his dream of traveling the country on his motorcycle accompanied by his wife and best friend, Carol.  Rich loved his cats and was an avid reader.  Rich treasured the fond memories of growing up on his family’s farm and at retirement, he moved back to the farm and loved restoring the house.

Rich will be forever cherished by his wife, the former Carol J. LaBruna whom he wed in 2006; daughters, Karen (David) Cialone of Eden, New York, and Kathleen (Robert) Bergstrom of Dover; grandchildren, Hannah and Alexander Cialone and Danielle Blair; and his cousins, Donald (Jeannie Prichard, Dr. James Prichard, and Susan Prichard.

In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his cousin, Terry Rex Prichard.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A service celebrating Rich’s life will follow in the funeral home at 6 p.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Foxfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Rich’s memory may be directed to either the Dover Public Library or the charity of the donor’s choice.
