Social media support was needed from the Ridgewood community as the school’s athletics department worked to win money.

They entered a competition through T-Mobile which required posting on social media, explains Athletic Director Jesse Smolder.

“It’s to help transform your high school football field and facility, and mainly through publications on Instagram, so Haley Evans and Shannon Folkert have done an amazing job with us of really pushing it, and it’s such a close-knit community. It’s one of the many reasons that makes this place special, how the community does rally around.”

They received $5,000 last Friday, at the pep rally, and that money will go toward much needed upgrades.

“We’re definitely going to put it back into our facility. There are several things at our stadium that we need, a new sound system and then we still have an all-grass field. We’re going need to do work regardless of whether we win more money or not.”

The next narrowed round will be sixteen high schools, before a final school gets the grand prize of $2 million for a football field makeover. Unfortunately, Ridgewood did not move forward in the contest.
