Robert “Bob” Denver Phillips, 90, of Tuscarawas passed away Wednesday morning, June 7, 2023, at Park Village Southside under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
Bob was born at home in Coshocton County to the late Joseph Edward and Iva Mae (Cly) Phillips. He attended Warsaw High School, but before finishing, Bob, served his country by joining the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, he went to work for Evans Brickyard/ Whitacre Grier as a machine operator. After thirty-eight years working there, the brickyard shut down and Bob retired. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., being a member of Midvale Post 962 until it closed and joining the Tuscarawas Post 7943, serving as Post commander for one year and Senior Vice Commander for six years. Bob enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are Bob’s wife of seventy years, Sara “June” (Keefer), whom he married on August 17, 1952, children: Steven Phillips (companion Myra Allen) and Shirley (Loren) Reichman; grandchildren: Michelle (Jeremy) Caldwell, Matthew (Dawn) Frizzell, and Kimberly (Rick) Roth; great-grandchildren: Savanah Frizzell, Maddex Caldwell, Landen Roth, Paisyn Caldwell, Karsyn Roth, Paxtyn Caldwell, and Brynlee Roth; step-grandchildren: Marla (JR) Davidson and family, Lonnie (Stephanie) Allen and family, and Ronnie (Pam) Allen and family.
Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dale Frizzell, and eight siblings: Lucille Hart, Charles Phillips, Alvia Phillips, Louis Keefer, Harlan Phillips, Sylvia Irwin, Harold Phillips, and William Phillips.
A graveside services for Bob will be held at Coshocton County Memory Gardens on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. Military Honors by the Newcomerstown Honor Guard will begin, and a service officiated by Pastor Josh McDonald will immediately follow
