Robert E. “Bob” Shaffer, age 93, of Tuscarawas, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at New Dawn Healthcare Center in Dover, following a brief illness.
Born July 11, 1929, in Uhrichsville, Bob is the son of the late John Jackson and Helen Catherine (Porcher) Shaffer.
From 1950 to 1952, Bob served his country in Korea in the United States Army Railroad Batallion. He was employed as a diesel electrician for 40 years from 1950 to 1990 at the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, and Conrail.
Bob’s hobbies were fishing in Canada, hunting, woodworking, bowling, in which his highest score was 289, and riding his electric bike all around Tusky.
On May 24, 1953, Bob married Eva Marie Grosenbacher. They enjoyed over 66 years of marriage until her passing on October 14, 2019. In addition to his wife, Bob is preceded in death by two brothers Abe and Buff Shaffer, and one sister Blanche Shaffer.
Bob is survived by his children Susan (Vernon) Dunlap, David Shaffer, Glen (Diane) Shaffer Sr., Rhea (Brett) Septer, and Laura (Chris) Beans; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren, brother Dick (Martha) Shaffer; sister Doris Dague and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, no services or calling hours will be observed.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens and this website will be updated when services are planned.
