Robert E. “Mac” Morton Sr., 84, of New Philadelphia, has passed away at Ohio’s Hospice House in New Philadelphia.

Born on September 21, 1939, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late Percy and Luvenia (Hughes) Morton.

Mac worked for Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18. He demonstrated not only his skills as a machine operator but also his commitment to his craft.

In addition to his successful career, Mac proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne. His military service was a testament to his courage and patriotism, and it further exemplified his selfless nature.

Beyond his professional and military achievements, Mac had a deep love for sports. He enjoyed watching all sports but found true joy in cheering on his grandchildren during their games. His unwavering support and encouragement meant the world to them and showed the kind of devoted family man he was.

On July 9, 1968, he married Lena Evans-Cato Morton, who survives. He will also be sadly missed by his children; Kimberly Morton-Plants (fiance, Samuel Barbone) of Stow, Andrea (Brian) Morton-Harrison of Georgia, Robert Morton Jr. of Dover, Rodney Hollins of Zanesville, Bill (Colleen) Rush of Zanesville; his brother, Frank (Rochelle) Goring of California; five grandchildren, Tim, Monique, Brevin, Shemar, and Aaliyah; and seven great-grandchildren, Micayela, Kimora, London, Aleeyah, Marcus, Joseph Jr. “LJ”, and Siana; along with his special cousins, Ruth Hunnicutt, and Charlene Hunter.

In honoring Mac’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Colby Byrom officiating.
