Robert John Belgya, 90, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation in Uhrichsville, Ohio, while surrounded by his loving family. Born September 28, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late Peter and Esther (Vargo) Belgya.

Bob was a 1951 graduate of Columbus South High School who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army’s 533rd Military Intelligence Battalion, stationed in Austria, from 1954 to 1956. He had a 33-year career with Ohio Bell, serving as the plant manager in Uhrichsville from 1971 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Uhrichsville First Methodist Church and a Life Member of New Philadelphia Elks #510, New Philadelphia V.F.W. #1445, and Telephone Pioneers of America.

On November 30, 1957, Bob married the former Marion Louise Gross with whom he enjoyed 66 years of loving marriage until her passing on August 25, 2023. They are survived by their children, Mark (Beverly) Belgya, Pamela (Jeff) Wright, and Cheryl (Fred Stoll) Probert; grandchildren, Kimberly (Matt) Monroe, Keith (Natalie) Wright, Emily (Seb) Tressel, Hunter (Leah Costello) Probert, Kristi (Justin) Long, and Karli Belgya; great granddaughter, Lucy Monroe; and a brother- and sister-in-law, Roger and Jeanette Gross. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Elmer Belgya, and sister, Betty Belgya.

According to Bob’s wishes, private family services are planned. He will be interred beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions honoring his memory may be made to Uhrichsville First Methodist Church, P. O. Box 426, Uhrichsville, OH  44663 and Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH  44663. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Claymont Health and Rehabilitation for the exceptional care and love provided to him.
