Robert Joseph Avery Sr., 72, of Dover Oh peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on Thursday November 30, 2023, at the Truman Hospice Center in New Philadelphia OH. He was born December 27th, 1950, in Dennison OH to the late Joseph and Evelyn (Cleveland) Avery. He lived most of his life in Ohio however was well travelled throughout the US.   

Robert was an Army veteran-82nd Airborne battalion. He also was a member of the former J. B. Easley Masonic Lodge No. 111. Robert had a passion for all sports and was athletic for most of his life. He was a black belt in karate, he played semi–pro football for the Tuscarawas County Vikings and he coached pee-wee football for many years for the Eastport Mustangs. He also was a Golden Gloves champion boxer. Robert loved to take road trips on his Harley Davidson Road King and was a member of the Brothers of the Hammer Motorcycle Club. 

Robert was known by many names, Dad, Grandpa, Poppo, Robert, Bob, Coach and Backstabber (motorcycle club name). There was no place he could travel to without running into someone that he knew, and he never met a stranger. He also was a great conversationalist and storyteller. Robert was known and loved by many. Robert graduated from Claymont High School in 1969. He held a special place in his heart for his classmates and rarely missed a class reunion. 

Robert leaves to cherish his memory his two sons Robert “Bobby” Avery Jr. (Mendi) of Dover, OH, Allen Avery (Brittany) of Las Vegas, NV; His brothers Frank Cleveland (Louise), of Dennison, and Grover Avery (Esther) of Dover and a sister Lynn Avery of Bedford OH.  Also left to cherish his memory are six granddaughters, India, Tederia, Zion, Ashlyn, Alayah and Revelyn. He also leaves five great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins all with whom he shared a very close bond. Robert also shared a lasting bond with his bonus family Sharyn Henry, Terra Frye (and family), Kim Henry (Alessia), and Drew Henry as well as longtime friends Debbie Edwards Strickmaker, Sadie Murphy and Betty Povick.  

Robert is preceded in death by his father and mother Joseph and Evelyn Avery. As well as his two daughters Khadijah (Stacy) and Samantha.

Funeral: 12:00pm Thursday December 7,2023Visitation (1) hour before at St. John Praise & Worship Community Church 1030 Cook St, Uhrichsville, Ohio.
