Robert N. “Bob” Hothem went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 22. 2022. Born on October 5, 1942, to the late Carl and Elizabeth (Selders) Hothem, he was raised in Fresno, Ohio, and was a lifelong resident of Coshocton County. Growing up in a simpler time, the stories of his youthful antics with his brothers and cousins would have anyone in stitches. Lots of experiments with engines, explosives, and general outdoor shenanigans. In his youth, he was not an early riser. He lived so close to his school that he wouldn’t wake up until the school bell rang then he would sneak up the backfire escape. As an adult, he saw no boundaries during intense snowball fights with the kids, even tossing snowballs indoors.

Bob attended Fresno High School with only 18 kids in his graduating class. With his cousin Bruce, who was also his best friend, Bob enlisted in the army reserves after graduation to serve our country. He was stationed in Virginia where he received training and worked as a locomotive engineer. Returning to his roots, he began driving a truck at an early age. He was a long-distance truck driver for over 50 years logging around 10 million miles. He could have driven to the moon and back more than 20 times! Bob was very proud of his driving record and received numerous safety awards over the years. Socially, he was involved in the Elks club and was a member of the Masonic Temple. Bob also took pride in supporting his family and instilled a solid work ethic and a love of baseball – especially Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine.

Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Patty (Schindler) Hothem in the early 1970s, as well as his brother, Lee Hothem. He is survived by his wife Marde (Castle) Hothem; his children, Bobbi Hothem Kibbey, Jim (Brenda) Phillips, and Judy (Willie) Jones; his sister, Marilyn Jean Maple; brother, John (Carolie) Hothem; six grandchildren; one great-grandson.
