Ronald John Schmidt, 83, passed away in his sleep at Akron General Hospital in Ohio after a short illness. He was born on November 7, 1937, in McKeesport and lived in Western Pennsylvania for 62 years before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then to Newcomerstown, Ohio.

His parents, Reinhold C. Schmidt, Jr, and Larue (Downes) Schmidt preceded him in death. He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Anna (Johnson) Schmidt; sons R. John Schmidt, Jr, and his wife Valdete (Zucoli) Schmidt, Glenn T. Schmidt, and his wife Kaye (Waugh) Schmidt, James A. Schmidt and his wife Vicki Sharrock, and daughter-in-law, Ann Elizabeth (Hoffman) Schmidt. His son Gene D. Schmidt preceded him in death. He also leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ron was the youngest of six siblings, leaving brothers Rev. William F Schmidt of Graymoor Monastery in New York, and Robert Schmidt of Dover, Delaware. His three sisters, Olive McBride, Rita Beaumont, and Joan Stefanko preceded him in death.

Ron was self-employed installing wallcoverings in Western Pennsylvania for many years. He loved his work and was admired for his craftsmanship. His favorite pastimes were photography, reading, traveling, and working in his woodshop. He loved sharing time with family and friends and was so proud that all four of his sons were Eagle Scouts. Ronald Schmidt lived life to the fullest and leaves a rich legacy of shared memories. His ashes will be scattered from the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of his favorite destinations. A private family memorial will be scheduled later.
