Ronald L. Selway, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, October 24, 2022, in Cleveland Clinic-Union Hospital in Dover.

Born in Wheeling, West Virginia on January 10, 1940, Ron was the son of the late David M. and Elsie (Cole) Selway. Ron was a graduate of Cadiz High School in 1958 and attended Ohio University.  Ron was the Owner/Operator of Daron Coal Company of Dennison, Cadiz, and Harrison County, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged.

Known to many as “Spinway,” he had a passion for speed. This included offshore boats, drag racing cars, race horses, and motorcycles. He loved going on poker runs with his wife either on their motorcycles or on their boat in places such as Lake Erie, Lake Cumberland, Chesapeake Bay, and Miami to Key West, FL.  Also known as “Captain Ron” to his family, he was the AHRA Drag Racing World Champion in 1970 and competed in several NHRA national and divisional comp eliminator events.  Ron was instrumental in producing the Buckeye Stampede Pro Rodeo at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds in Dover for several years.

Although Ron was physically tough, his greatest strengths were his kindness, loyalty, and generosity. Ron lived his life doing what he loved with his wife, Robbin, and his sons, Clay and Cole: traveling, boating, riding, and racing. He did it his way, and he did it fast.

Surviving is his wife of 21 years, Robbin L. (Hill) Selway of the residence; his two sons, Ronald Clay (Emily) Selway of Athens, and David Cole (Jessica) Selway of Columbus; his two grandchildren, Elliott, and Judah Selway; his faithful companion, “Flynt”; his two sisters, Carol (Michael) Bertz of Denver, Colorado and Diane (Bill) Rogers of Panama City, Florida and his extended family, Greg and Laurie Quillen of Dennison, Denise Krankovich of Cadiz, Mike and Jeanine Smitley and their son Cooper of Gnadenhutten, and Toby and Jennifer Sims and their daughter Kaitlyn of Elkton, Florida. He is preceded in death by both his parents and his best friend and companion, “Zip”.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 1 to 3 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a service celebrating Ron’s life will begin at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brian Flood officiating.
