Ruth Marie Jackson, 101, of Dennison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Hennis Care Centre in Dover. Born September 21, 1921 in Luverne, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Annie Ruth (Davis) Lowery.

Ruth spent much of her life as a resident of Dennison where she had been a member of the former Grant Street United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She was a faithful member of the congregation, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and being an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Twin City Food Bank, delivering food to local shut-ins. She was a cashier for Nichol’s Discount Store for many years until her retirement in 1989.

In 1944, Ruth married Stewart Jackson by whom she was widowed after only 12 years of marriage when he died on August 6, 1956. They are survived by 2 daughters, Sandra Kay Jackson and Sheila Ann Jackson; a son, Dr. J. David (Sharon) Jackson; 6 grandchildren, Jaikeele, Janiqua, Rebecca, Shelton, Rachel, and A.J.; and 7 great-grandchildren, Bradley, Aniyah, Roselynn, Shelton III, Joseph, Ashton, and Austin Jr. Ruth is also survived by her sisters, Katie Gamble, Cumi Harris, Minnie Washington, and Ann Lightfoot, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Stewart Jackson, and brother, Abraham Lowery.

Services, officiated by Pastor Kory Rowland and Pastor Tom Gruver, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Her family will receive callers at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Friday prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Charitable contributions honoring Ruth’s memory may be made to the Twin City Christian Service Center’s Food Pantry.
