Gwen Rummell Reporting –

Tuscarawas County’s Safe Communities Coalition recently released the 2023 quarter two traffic fatality report.

For the second quarter, covering April 1st through June 30th, the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated 478 crashes, with no fatal crashes experienced in Tuscarawas County.

Abbie Benton, Safe Communities Program Coordinator for the Tuscarawas County Health Department, says she is grateful for the reduction of fatalities but still wants to work on preventing accidents.

“Some of the top reasons of these crashes were unbelted-related, youth-related, speed-related, alcohol-related, as well as failure to yield.”

These accidents can be prevented by avoiding driving impaired, putting away any distractions, and following all traffic safety laws.
