An open office hours event for State Representative Jodi Salvo last week at the Dover Library became an impromptu town hall meeting, with some of the 25 attendees grilling the Bolivar Republican about school funding, DEI initiatives and more.
Salvo took office in January and said she is still learning about all the issues in the legislature. That didn’t stop some attendees from wanting her to answer for the state’s growing support for private and Charter Schools.
Dover School Board President Brian Hanner called the state’s Charter School voucher program ugly. He called it a “bailout for big cities” and noted that 90 percent of Ohio’s school voucher funding goes to wealthy families.
Salvo said she is collecting information, but did agree that too much of the budget favors big cities.
Salvo is planning another visit to the Dover Library on Saturday, April 12th.
