Samuel Jason “Jake” Byrom, 73, of Newcomerstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Canton.

Jake was born May 6, 1953, in Dover to the late Orliage “Smuggs” Byrom and Darlene (Ray) Byrom.

Jake was a 1971 graduate of Dover High School, and he went on to work at Huntington Bank, Union Camp Corp., Snyder Manufacturing, and for the Village of Newcomerstown as a custodian at the Police Department.

He loved basketball and was an avid golfer. He loved watching baseball and golf as well as riding his bike. He enjoyed working in his yard and loved collecting things. Jake always had his music playing, and he loved to write and would journal often. He especially loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and family.

On September 27, 1984, Jake married Rhonda (Collins) Byrom, who passed away on August 16, 2015.

Jake is survived by his children, Leslie M. Byrom (Chris) Brooks and Jason E. (Ashley) Byrom; his grandchildren Ausar and Auset Imani, Channing Brooks, Truth and Toreion Brooks, Victory, Glory, and Zion Byrom; his siblings, Colbert Byrom, Dean Byrom, Demetra Ransom, Teresa Mann, Darrell “Jerry” Byrom and Beatrice Byrom; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
