Nick McWilliams reporting – The city of Dover will be searching for a new councilmember with Joe Sciarretti stepping down.

Selected in June of 2022 to fill a vacant council-at-large seat, Sciarretti took over for Justin Perkowski, who resigned his seat after being appointed president of council.

Monday was his last council meeting, and Sciarretti offered thanks to the city for placing him in the role.

“It was an honor to serve. I witnessed … because I wasn’t of some of the turmoil that was here … but I certainly witnessed you as a body, being led by the mayor and the president. And you in your respective wards and council-at-large seats, you got your sea legs back, and really come to a solid and cemented foundation.”

The former Tuscarawas County commissioner says that he and his family are moving out of the area, leading to his resignation.

The Tuscarawas County Republican Central Committee will now field applicants for the position before appointing one candidate to serve out the remainder of the term, which will expire at the end of 2025.
