With two recent grants being announced for the City of Dover, it brings their total of approved funding to $2.2 million for the past year.

Along with private donations, grant funding was awarded to the city from entities like JobsOhio, the Community Block Development Grant program (CBDG), and the Ohio Department of Development Housing Demolition Program.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says for the most recent grants, one is for $200,000 through ODOT Jobs and Commerce grant for Crown Road improvements.

“We received $450,000 through an ODOT Transportation Alternatives program that will be used for the addition of sidewalks and other improvements from W. 3rd Street to the edge of town. Council authorized the city to apply for this grant, last year, in ordinance 19-23.”

An additional $500,000 was applied for last week for more improvements to Crown Road.

Gunnoe notes that, over the past year, the city has received $2.25 million through grant applications and local donations.

“$20,000 from the Solid Waste District, the yard waste side grant, for operation of our compost site, approximately $100,000 in private donations that were received as part of the Dover girls’ softball field turf project, including recently a new addition of a proposed installation of a plaque in the outfield.”

Other grants mentioned was $890,000 from JobsOhio for Crown Road, a CBDG grant for $457,000 for the W. 7th Street reconstruction, and $128,000 for the demolition of the Midway Lumber building and one additional residence.
