No one was injured following a Thursday morning fire in the City of Uhrichsville.
Crews were toned out at 2:44am to the 400 block of North Main Street.
Fire Chief Justin Edwards says this was at a building with a commercial business and two apartments.
“Initially we were advised there was seven people in the building that were unaccounted for but upon arrival they found the last few evacuating and with fire department personnel and Uhrichsville police finished getting those folks out. Upon entry they found a furnace had malfunctioned and caught fire. Once occupant had used a fire extinguisher before the fire department arrived which helped in containing the fire to that large furnace.”
Edwards says the occupants were alerted thanks to a working smoke detector.
“Don’t believe anybody was hurt. At least no body required transport. Once the fire was completely extinguished, being a large building, it took quite a while to get all the smoke out using ventilation fans.”
Firefighters were on scene until just after 5am. Assisting departments included Arrowhead, Dennison, New Philadelphia, and Warwick.
