Shane C. York, a dedicated employee at the Starlight Workshop for over 20 years, passed away on June 16, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House. He was born on May 23, 1976, in Dover. He loved people and will be remembered for his passion for playing basketball and watching and attending Big Time Wrestling.
In addition to his love for sports, Shane also enjoyed eating pizza and going to McDonalds for a Big Mac. He will be fondly remembered by his friends at Starlight Workshop for his hard work and dedication.
Shane was proud to have participated in the Special Olympics. This was one of his proudest accomplishments in life.
He is survived by his mother, Nadine Potts Alexander of Dover; siblings Mark (Kimberly) York of Florida, Angie York of Florida, Kim (Les) Bond of New Philadelphia, Frank (Mary) Hershberger of New Philadelphia, Michael (Jan) Hershberger of Dover, Linda Jones of New Philadelphia, Dennis Hershberger of Dover, Janet Runyon of Navarre and his roommates at the Twin City Group Home. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Shane was preceded in death by his father, Rick Smith and foster parents, Laon and Pauline Hershberger.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24th from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home- Dover. A funeral service will follow immediately after visitation with David Millard officiating.
The life story of Shane C. York is one worth celebrating. May he rest in peace knowing that he touched the lives of many with his kindness and hard work.
