Shirley Joan Gerber, 86, of Dover, died in New Dawn Healthcare Center on December 8, 2023.
Born December 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Della (Eckert) Touvell.
On August 13, 1954, Shirley married the late William Aldro Gerber. While they were stationed in Hawaii, a tsunami hit and Shirley saved a young boy’s life during the storm.
Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia where she served as a custodian, church nursery helper and published Bibles. She also enjoyed crocheting, decorating cakes, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her children, Cindy and Bryan Gerber, both of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Shawnda (John) Holland, Kayla (Keith) Beamish, and Jim Stringer; great-grandchildren, William, Octavius, Xavier, Emerson, Graysen, Luke, and Zayla Holland, Ethan and Liam Beamish, and Ravynn, Regan, and Maya Stringer; and sister, Ida Clark.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Scot Gerber and 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
A service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at 11 am in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Garden in Dover.
