Mary Alice Reporting –
The New Philadelphia Police Department reports that an arrest has been made related to a Friday shooting.
Captain Detective Ty Norris explains they received calls around 4pm advising that multiple gunshots were heard in the area of 6th Street. No one was injured.
Norris says road units responded and were able to review surveillance footage from several businesses.
“Talked to some witnesses out there who gave us somewhat of a description of a vehicle. They reviewed the surveillance cameras, and they were able to see a person reach a firearm out of this vehicle and fire a gun multiple times into the air. Based on everything we know, this vehicle was southbound on 6th Street NW. As it approached the intersection by Bud and Tooties multiple shots were fired there. The vehicle continued across West High Avenue and headed southbound and multiple more gunshots were heard.”
Throughout the investigation, a potential suspect and car was identified, which was located at a local motel.
Captain Norris adds that a man was taken into custody Friday, at 10pm, without incident.
“I anticipate other charges on other individuals. We’re still working on locating them. We did locate both firearms that we believe were used in this based on statements gathered.”
The primary suspect is being held with formal charges pending a review from the New Philadelphia Prosecutor’s Office.
Assisting law enforcement included the Tuscarawas Sheriff’s Office and City of Canton police.
