Mary Alice Reporting –

It was a full room at Thursday’s Uhrichsville Council meeting with topics of alley vacations, conversations beginning for the Farmer’s Market, and an executive session related to personnel matters.

Mayor Jim Zucal started the meeting by noting he had attended the recent OMEGA meeting and grant opportunities were discussed but matching dollars would have to be considered.

On the topic of finances, in 2025, the 3rd Street Bridge project is set to happen but the city has a shortfall of $200,000 and the idea of apply for a SIB loan is no longer viable.

“At the state level we cannot obtain a State Infrastructure Bank loan. It is not allowed for engineering so we’re going to have to explore other options if we want to fund that project for next year.”

During the visitor comments, Darren Wimer, a Uhrichsville Eagles Trustee, inquired about the building at 330 N. Main Street, the vacated Clay Museum.

“A few years ago had a waterline burst in it. Basically, the Uhrichsville Eagles are wanting to see if city council would be interested in donating that. It would alleviate the taxes on it for the city, the insurance, and all the utility bills. We would be interested in covering the cost of the previous title search and closing costs.”

The matter was placed into committee.

Also speaking was John and Darlene Fockler, who had concerns about the proposed expansion of the Bellstores gas station. They live just beyond the location and noted they have flooding issues more so since the area was concreted and trucks parking along Gardner Street. They are worried the matter would worsen following the business extension. Council noted that construction plans were still in the very early stages.
