Nick McWilliams reporting – A high-visibility campaign gets underway Monday related to safety belt enforcement.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in partnership with state police from West Virginia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Kentucky, will ramp up their presence on highways from May 23rd to May 30th.

The efforts go along with the start of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Click It or Ticket campaign, paired with Operation CARE.

OSP Superintendent Colonel Richard Fambro reminded motorists that seatbelts are one of the best tools when it comes to saving lives in automobile accidents, and asks that all drivers build-up, every time.

Ohio’s seatbelt laws still are secondary in nature, but troopers have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to enforcement when pulled over for other violations.

Motorists are also reminded to keep eyes on the road, be aware of an increase of troopers on Ohio roads, and move over for all vehicles displaying emergency lights.
