Mary Alice Reporting –

A building on McCracken Drive suffered minor damage after an ember caught fire.

Dover Fire department, and crews from Strasburg, Sugarcreek, New Philadelphia, and Smith Ambulance, responded Wednesday mid-afternoon.

Captain Joe Minocchi (min-oh-key) says they arrived on scene and the property belongs to Columbia Woodlands and the small fire was at a maintenance building. Location staff did use a fire extinguisher prior to firefighter arrival but the concern was a blaze was still burning in the corner.

“So when our crews got on scene, they pulled a hand line and they ended up having to take part of that wall and break it open, and pull it apart to get inside. It was not a big fire by any means but it was just a little difficult to get to. It’s believed that the fire started from a flying ember from a nearby debris pile that they were burning.”

No injuries were reported. Minocchi reminds all that the State of Ohio is currently under a burn ban during daytime hours.
