Mary Alice Reporting –

A man is facing charges following a domestic situation that led to a minor gunshot wound.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell released that the Wednesday call, at 11:30am, was from a man stating he had shot his son after being attacked.

Deputies and detectives responded to the Dover-Zoar Road home, learning that the son, later identified as 40-year-old Matthew McKenzie, had initiated an argument that became physical. At some point, the 70-year-old was knocked down and attacked, resulting in the self-defense shooting.

McKenzie was treated at a Canton hospital then was transported to the Tuscarawas County jail to be held on charges of assault and domestic violence.

Campbell noted that preliminary evidence concurred with the father’s story.

An arraignment for McKenzie is scheduled in New Philadelphia Municipal Court.
