With all of the snow and cold out there, Uhrichsville fire chief Judd Edwards is reminding residents to keep an eye on their home’s furnace vents. Keeping them free from snow blockage to prevent carbon monoxide buildup and poisoning.
Edwards says to make sure space heaters aren’t at risk by giving 3 feet of space away from any combustibles, and don’t leave them plugged in when going to bed if not in the same room.
The state fire marshal’s office also says plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet; never use extension cords or power strips or plug two space heaters into the same outlet.
Residents with nearby fire hydrants are also asked to clear a space around them, which would help in the event of an emergency situation.
