More orange barrels are popping up around Tuscarawas County as starting today, ODOT is resurfacing nearly four miles of State Route 39 east of Sugarcreek.

During the first phase of the project, drivers will see temporary traffic signals for the next six to eight weeks. After that, work will move to overnight hours, with flaggers maintaining traffic through the end of October.

ODOT District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell says crash statistics from the Ohio State Highway Patrol are a reminder for drivers to slow down for these projects.

Borell adds ODOT considers several factors when deciding which projects move forward each construction season.

Other projects in the county this year include the West Third Street bridge replacement in Uhrichsville, safe routes to school upgrades for sidewalks and crosswalks in Port Washington, and paving, drainage and sidewalk improvements along North First Street in Dennison.
