State officials want everyone to keep friends and family safe this 4th of July by leaving the fireworks to the professionals.
There are many local fireworks shows happening throughout the holiday period.
However, if planning to set off personal fireworks, make sure to follow the rules. Fireworks can only be set off during Ohio law’s specific dates and time of July 3rd, 4th, and 5th, as well as on the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday immediately before and after July 4th from 4 to 11 p.m. Fireworks should only be bought from licensed retailers and people should purchase ones they know how to handle.
Richard Sluder from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office says when purchasing fireworks from a story they will have a license posted at their place of business.
Make sure to have the proper distance from neighboring property’s and are in a place with plenty of grass or concrete, so the fireworks don’t land on a structure.
Sluder also warns not to store fireworks in the home. He says not to buy more than what you plan to let off because fireworks can be unsafe when stored long-term in your residence.
He says celebrate this 4th of July safely by following the law and recommendations from Ohio Fire Marshals.
