Dollars spent at local businesses helps communities with that money being put back into events and organizations.
The 25th is Small Business Saturday and it encourages individuals to visit local businesses and shop small.
Scott Robinson, President and CEO of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce, says it’s important to support small business because they’re the ones who make a difference in a community.
“They’re the back bone locally and everything centers around our downtowns, which is very important, and certainly have to applaud people who’ve maintained small businesses with a lot of different challenges from outside factors. They continue to operate locally and in our downtowns.”
Following the past few years, small businesses adapted and became more technology friendly with online shopping, pick-up options, and more available on devices through a website or social media platform.
Robinson adds that the Tuscarawas County Chamber has certificates available called Chamber Bucks, which make great Christmas gifts.
“Opportunity to spend funds at any 300 businesses that participate in that program, where you can go in and it’s just like a gift certificate and you can use that and support your local businesses that way too.”
He points out that shop local has direct community impacts since these businesses are the ones to support non-profits, 4-H programs, school sporting events, and other projects.
