Mary Alice Reporting –

The registration deadline is on June 24th for youth to get involved with the Dale Lauren Foland Manufacturing Camp.

The four-day exploration is designed for students going into 7th or 8th grade this fall and provides a look into the various careers within manufacturing.

A big supporter of these camps has been US Senator Sherrod Brown, who notes he helped begin these camps more than a decade ago.

“Local manufacturers and local citizens have really picked up and made it work. To watch some of these kids who maybe didn’t really like school much but love this is a sight to behold. Kids in Tuscarawas County have benefited from this for years and that’s why we began this.”

At the local camp, participants will learn how to bring innovations to life through hands-on activities and classes.

“Girls and boys who have an interest in science, who have an interest in making things, who maybe don’t want to go to college but want to do creative important work. They might want to become an engineer, they might become a carpenter, they might become a data expert of some kind and it gives them opportunities.”

For the Tuscarawas County camp, space is limited for the camp that runs July 19th – 22nd from 8am to 4pm. Cost is $50 with financial assistance available.
