Gwen Rummell Reporting –
Individuals are advised to secure their prescription medicines in a safe place while preparing for holiday gatherings.
With more people in and out of homes, it’s essential to keep prescription drugs in a secure location, away from the reach of children and guests.
Empower Tusc Coordinator Jodi Salvo says putting away prescriptions and having a discussion with children can help prevent any potential health hazards.
“If a young child is seeing what looks like candy, to ask their parents first to make sure that, if someone is handing out what looks like candy, that the children are understanding that they need to speak with their parents about that.”
If an individual or child accidentally consumes a medication, 911 should be called immediately and, if possible, notified of the type of medication.
Salvo also notes that adults enjoying alcoholic beverages should be mindful of their intake.
“Sometimes adults might drink a little bit more on holidays, celebratory times, but just be mindful that young eyes are watching – our words matter.”
Those ingesting alcohol during the holidays should never drive afterward.
Impaired drivers on the roadways can be reported by dialing #677.
