Strasburg City Council presented a new ordinance which combines trap-neuter-release and feeding bans.

Over the past few years, abandonment has led to a large number of stray cats in the village. The goal behind the ordinance, introduced at the January 24th meeting, is to reduce this number.

The Tuscarawas County TNR Project reminded council that they do not provide services in communities where feeding and sheltering are criminalized.

“One of the first steps in trapping a colony is consistent feeding. We can’t randomly drive around the neighborhood looking for cats to trap. We have to go where they’re coming to and that means feeding them.”

Strasburg Council tabled the discussion and may continue to modify the ordinance.
