Strasburg officials are deciding whether to allow construction of a village-wide fiber optic network.

After installing lines in Dover and New Phila, Omni fiber is now seeking permission to connect every home and business in the village.

Strasburg administrator Mike Rosenberry says the company intends to utilize overhead lines whenever possible, although most of the work would happen underground.

Council is considering the request and a plan to impose equipment fees on the company. Rosenberry wants to charge 50-dollars for each underground ‘flowerpot’ and 500 for every communication box.

The proposal is scheduled for a third reading and possible vote during Tuesday’s council meeting.
