Strasburg officials are sharing their plans to build a new multi-purpose facility to house a police station, library, food pantry and community center.

Mayor Bruce Metzger says it’s too soon to share a cost estimate, but he believes the village can build it without burdening taxpayers.

Metzger says the facility will be built on 1.2 acres next to the Council Chambers on Bodmer Avenue. The property is owned by the school district, but Metzger says last week the School Board agreed to sell the land to the village. Attorneys were working on the deal.

The facility has been needed for years. He says the village hasn’t had a proper place to host fundraisers or other events since the fire department turned what used to be a social hall into living quarters.

Metzger hopes the village can break ground in about six months. Strasburg will host a town hall meeting on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to noon. They will share renderings and answer questions about the project.
