The Strasburg School District is asking voters to upgrade their athletic facilities through a bond issue.
Issue 11 on the May 6th ballot is a 3.6-mill, 30-year bond issue to raise 10 million dollars for athletic facility upgrades. It would cost homeowners 126 dollars per year for every 100-thousand dollars of property value.
Strasburg Athletic Director Gary Spinell says passage of the issue would allow the district to add turf to the football field and replace a nearly 30-year-old track. Plus new fields for baseball, softball and band practice.
Superintendent Vince Lindsey says the district might have to find a new home for the softball team anyway with the expansion of the waste management plant potentially cutting into the field at Strasburg Franklin Park. He also says the football field and track are getting old.
School Board member and bond committee representative Diana Flickinger says Issue 11 is the next step in Strasburg Schools and the community strengthening their identity.
