The Village of Strasburg is asking for voter support for a property tax issue that is a renewal with an increase.

The current tax sits at 1.5 mills and the increase is .8 mills, which would bring to total tax to 2.3 mills for the next five years, if approved.

Village Mayor Bruce Metzger says, with the bump, it would bring in an estimated $200,000 for the police levy.

“Which would go toward operations and equipment, and wages. The renewal that is on only brought in right around 50 some thousand and with the cost of everything these days it really puts a bind on the town having to take more out of the general fund for operation.”

Early voting is still taking place at the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Office until Sunday, and then polling locations will open at 6:30am on Tuesday.
