Mary Alice Reporting – A local police department is sending out a reminder to put valuables away after they’ve seen an increase in thefts.

Strasburg Chief David Warrick says items taken are ones that can have a quick resell turnaround.

Primarily, the stolen property has been at homes from porches and garages.

“Mainly consisting of tools and other valuables that are left out. Just be very mindful of what is left out, what you leave unsecured, and I just encourage everybody to lock their stuff up, call the police to report something suspicious, anything out of the ordinary.”

Businesses also have their share of trouble with a recent incident occurring at a Strasburg laundromat involving a woman and a man attempting to gain entry into a coin machine.

Warrick explains that, for the police department, social media has become a valuable asset as they post about incidents and comments can help forward an investigation. He points out that a suspect does not always live within the village or local area and by sharing the information online it gets other communities and law enforcement agencies involved.
