The Tuscarawas County Commissioner’s approved a proclamation related to tobacco awareness following a presentation by students from Strasburg and Tuscarawas Central Catholic.

The students of Youth-2-Youth were tasked to create a video message through the Tuscarawas County Health Department, talking about the dangers of tobacco use and raising awareness.

For TCC’s video, they focused more on the facts explains Steven Simpson and Ellen Norris.

“I helped write the script, so I wanted our video to focus on the facts of vaping, because people know, yes, it contains nicotine but nobody knows how much or how much harmful metals it has in it.”

“People don’t really look at the facts. They look at people who [smoke] and they think, well they’re doing it so why can’t I do it.”

For Strasburg, the idea was to focus on adults and what they think about when it comes to vaping and knowing how youth can potentially hide the cartridges, says Max Metz.

“As adults are more likely to see the video than teens will be, so I wanted to focus how adults can see how the big companies market toward teenagers and how they can turn their attention toward that.”

During Wednesday’s Commissioner meeting, the board unanimously approved a proclamation naming April 1st as Takedown Tobacco Day.
